Dr. Ross Bernstein is originally from South Africa but grew up in Los Angeles. He received his BS in neuroscience from Duke University where he also minored in economics and psychology. He completed his veterinary degree at UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and after that completed a 1-year rotating internship in Medicine & Surgery at the University of Illinois, College of Veterinary Medicine.
Following his rotating internship, Dr. Bernstein completed a 1-year small animal surgical internship at Las Vegas Veterinary Specialty Center where he gained much experience in complex soft tissue, orthopedic and neurological surgical procedures. Dr. Bernstein’s work has been featured in several industry-leading publications, including the Journal of Veterinary Surgery.
In addition to his expertise in cats and dogs, Dr. Bernstein is also incredibly passionate about conservation and exotic animal medicine. He has accumulated experience working with lions, zebras, baboons, giraffes, hippo, exotic birds and reptiles and even helped save rhinos from poachers. He maintains his passion for wildlife through frequent trips back to Africa where he takes veterinary students on wildlife medicine field courses.
Dr. Bernstein shares his home in Los Angeles with his Golden Retriever, Duma and in his free time he enjoys traveling, playing sports and outdoor activities such as hiking.
